Long time ago, there was an enthusiastic young man livig in a peaceful town. One day, he saw an elderly man moving the television painfully. The young man gave the elder man a hand.

After a couple of minutes, they moved up the television and the elder man drove the truck away. While the young man was taking a rest with great satisfaction, some people were shouting angrily and the police man was blowing whistle loudly at the truck. The young man was confused.

Until the police man told him the truth in police office did the young man realized that he was helping a thief. He was so sorry about what he had done, but too late. The thief got the television because of the young man.

Becoming a freshman of high school, you will be about to start a brand new period of study in your life. Entering the high school symbolizes you pursue a higher education in order to complete a further study in the university. As for advice, I do have some tips for you to fully enjoy your high school time with greatest joy and hardest studies.

First of all, please be open-minded, accept changes and do not complain about everything. There are several skills that needed in the University and some of them are not easy to learn. For example, if you plan to study materials engineering in the University, the physic will be very important to you, but it might be hard in compare with the others subject in junior high. You certainly have to work hard and be more efficient of your time controlling without complain.

Second, please broaden your horizon and your interests and know them well. You have to decide what department, field and faculty you will be studying in for the University. Due to the difficulties to choose what they will study in the following 4 year in the University for a high school Student, many faculties from universities will hold a campus-recruiting seminar to express and promote their own department. Please do not be hesitating to participating them and please do not ruin out any possibility. Any limitation will be harmful to your future career.

Finally, the most important one is being nice to your friend. Friendship in high school time is said to be a friendship for life. Hope you can seek for the true meaning of learning and be a friend with it. “Stay hungry, stay foolish.”

Dear Adam:

    First of all, I want to thank you for giving me some advice last week. My classmates no longer make fun of me and we get alones well with each other now.

    Second, I hope you could give me a hand again. My mom and I have arguments everyday because of the housework. She wants me to do lots of work while I’m studying. I told her many times that I need more time to study, but she never listens. Please tell me what to do to solve the problem between mom and me.

U.S. president John Adams said,” If your action inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” I think a leader needn’t to be a CEO or politician, but to have vision, passion, and courage.

A leader needs to have great vision that can notice or discover the way to the better future and also give the followers maximum benefits. For example, Sun Yat-Sen, the founding father of the nation with great vision, he told his followers that the only way to save China was definitely a revolution, and build up a democracy.

Being passion is an important characteristic to become a leader. A leader demonstrates the strong passion and conviction to his followers. He engages in outstanding or extraordinary behavior and makes extraordinary self-sacrifices of his mission. Like M.K. Gandhi, who was the leader of India’s “non-violent resistance”, told his followers that not to use violent to against the U.K. government.

Only a man who has courage can lead people while facing problems. A leader plays an important role in leading followers and they also give him a high degree of faith. Therefore, such a leader needs to have courage that stronger than anyone because their mission usually challenges. President of the America, Harry S. Truman is a good example of courage because he allowed using the atomic bombs in WW2. It is said that the atomic bombs haven’t examined that whether it could use or not and how it affect the environment of the Earth, but he has the courage to do so.

A leader is a combination of vision, passion, and courage. By following these tips and explanations, I’m sure that you will become a better person and a great leader.

    In recent years, prices of raw materials went skyrocketed. The rising prices of petroleum and electric caused an inflation crisis all over the world. These floating prices are interfering our everyday life. For example, water, the essential material we need every day, became more and more expensive due to the rising cost of processing.

    What can we do to slow down the wasting of energy? We can drive hybrid cars instead of traditional gasoline cars, or even take more public transportations as we can. We can make sure that we turn off the lights and electrical products after using them. By doing this, we can not only save the planet from saving more energy, but also save our own money. Only with the right way and right method, we can overcome the rising price problem. So say we all!!

    If I were an employer, I would like to hire experienced workers at a higher salary instead of hiring inexperienced workers but at a lower salary because of three reasons.

    First, it’s easier to hire experienced workers because they already know what skills and knowledges they have before hiring them. They know how much bargaining power they have. Inexperienced workers always focus on their salary and fringe benefits instead of the whole status of their working contribution, but these problems won’t happened on experienced workers.

    Second, experienced workers have more adept working skills. It’s important for a company to have experienced workers because they don’t have to train them too much.

    Third, experienced workers have more understanding and basic knowledge of the job. A company need the workers that can operate and start producing as soon as possible because time is money. Every employers like workers to be ready as soon as they can.

    To sum up, I would prefer experienced workers though at a higher salary.

Food prices in UK supermarkets and shops have risen by 8.3% since January. People can feel the price rising by shopping, as frozen foods, fresh fruit and vegetables, ready meals and dairy goods. The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is trying to solve the problem of prices increasing now. 

Meat and fish – up 22.9% – registered the biggest price increases for any one category in the survey, with fresh fruit and vegetables up 14.7%.

Retail analysts Verdict Research also found price rises of nearly 50% for some individual food items.

The figures come amid growing concern about the high cost of food, which is exceeding the official inflation rate.

The BBC Food Price Index compiled by Verdict is designed to track the cost of a typical trolley of UK food items.

It divides household supermarket purchases into 13 categories, including frozen foods, fresh fruit and vegetables, ready meals and dairy goods.

The index showed that during the eight months from January to August, meat and fish prices went up by 22.9%, making them the fastest-rising category.

General store-cupboard items, such as tinned foods, were the next most inflation-busting sector, registering a 15% increase, while fresh fruit and vegetables went up by 14.7%.

Seven items in the survey were found to have gone up in price by more than 40%.

A pack of four croissants was 47.4% more expensive and a 125g packet of ham went up by 45.4%, while the price of a medium-sized chicken increased by 41.9%.

The figures produced for the BBC are in line with other recently-published research showing the impact of food price rises on UK household budgets.

On Wednesday, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) said that food price inflation over the past year amounted to 10% – more than twice the official Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation rate of 4.4%.

The BRC figures indicated that the rate of increase for fresh food items was even higher, at 11.9%.

CPI inflation is likely to rise to about 5% in coming months, analysts say.

Concern about inflation has led the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to resist calls for cuts in interest rates, despite fears that the UK economy may be heading for recession if the cost of borrowing money does not come down.

On Thursday, the MPC voted to keep interest rates on hold at 5% for a fifth month.

     IMO’s origin can trace back to Ancient Greece. It is a contest that gathers many math-talented elites over the world. During the middle of each year, delegations of every country will have a math contest at some time.  

     Fortunately, I became one of Taiwan delegate in elementary school. It was my first time being in an international contest. I was a proud guy that I thought there was no one could beat me in my age. I started to live in my own world before attended IMO.

     Tragically, I failed the contest. After hearing my rank of position in contest, I lost myself for a long while. When I awoke, I realized that “However strong you are, there’s always someone stronger”. I changed my thought after attended IMO.

     There will be lots of things we have to face with in our life. For me, IMO is the key point in my life. How about you?
